Part 6: South Africa - Along the Coast Line of False Bay, Boulder's Beach, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

finally part 6 is here! hahaha

31st december 2008
we started off our journey as usual about 8 something in the morning, with the help from the car rented from Avis and the GPS. we saw many beautiful beaches while driving along the False Bay coast line.

then out of no where. there's just this.

a super big water slide.

since it's summer, everyone just go there and have a family day! enjoying the sun, having a picnic, get themselves some tan... while on the other hand, me and my family cant wait to hide under the shade, so that we wont be get any sunburn! lol

they even have a railway right beside the beach..

i cant help but to think "what if tsunami comes?"

one of the beach along the way. and yes, right beside the railway too.

One of the beaches in False Bay.

just look at the sea and sky. priceless

the rubber rubber stuff and actually a type of seaweed! they collect them in a spot before throwing them away.

so many people and yet the beach is still very clean.

we didnt swim. although it's really sunny. but look at the sea temperature.

17 degree Celsius! i'll freeze to death!

a random crooked tree

after spending about 2 hours walking around the beach and shops nearby, we headed off to the next destination - The Boulders. we passed a fish hoek and simon's town along the way.

Boulder's Beach

I was so excited to go to Boulder's Beach. One of the highlights that i have been anticipated even before i came over to south africa. It's because of......

PENGUINS!!!!!

do you know that most penguins will only have one partner throughout their life? they are so loyal!!

this is the walk to the penguin colony. but along the way, in between those bushes, you'll see many pairs of loving penguins together.

look at the picture above. one of the penguin takes care of the egg while the other just came back searching for food. and do you know that penguins actually take turns to go hunting for food in the sea for their partner who takes care of the baby at home.

this video was supposed to take the cute way the penguin walks, but it decided to stop when i started recording. zzzzzzz

penguins by the beach,

sun-tanning penguins

penguins back from the sea

mating ;)

we were there for quite long. looking at those adorable partners. and of course their cute ways of walking, jumping into the water to swim, swimming.

on the way back, we suddenly saw a few people was sitting NEXT TO THE PENGUINS!! how come we couldnt do that? in the end, after exploring around, we found out that we can actually go next to the penguins. but first, we gotta go through the rocks.

me adjusting my body to fit in the gap

my mummy and kuma's turn to fit in the gap

after about 15 minutes of crawling, squeezing, climbing, etc.. we reached the place where we get to be NEXT TO THE PENGUINS!

they are in pairs most of the time

mummy and me

although i've went to see the penguins in Phillip Island, Australia during 2004, but this is different! you can only see the penguins in aussie at night. and you cannot take a picture of them. plus, you cant be next to them, or touch them.

but in Boulder's Beach, South Africa, you can even have a picnic or swim with the penguins!

cute little penguins

loving couple

then i tried to touch them.

i know i look scared here. but penguins arent exactly very friendly k! they do BITE!

on our way back, we realised the tide is high already. some of the cracks/holes in between the rocks are now filled with water! so now we gotta walk into the water to get back to our bags.

on a rock

before we leave Boulder's Beach, we made sure that we do not have any penguins hidden under our vehicles.

my kuma joked that if there's a penguin hidden under our vehicle, she would steal it back to M'sia for her granddaughter. we then replied, the penguins will get heat stroke! ;P

and since it's New Year's Eve, we drove all the way about 1.5 hours to Cape Town to joined the countdown in Victoria & Alfred Waterfront!

we had our dinner, walked around, sat down and enjoyed the street entertainers performing and watched the fireworks at midnight!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009 from cape town!
