After experiencing the shortest 7 minutes in our life, where we run from one station to the other station with our luggage to catch our train, we had a good rest with the overnight train ride to Stockholm, Sweden.
All of us caught the train on time. Happy faces to Sweden! |
We arrived Stockholm, Sweden the next day and checked into our hotel for 3 days 2 nights. Immediately, we got out and make full use of our little time to explore Stockholm. Too bad the weather was cloudy and rainy during our stay. No blue sky.
We walked along the pier and had a great view of the city and boats.
Of course, there was a museum of the famous music band - ABBA as they are from Sweden.
We didnt enter the museum though but we did visit the gift shop.We took ferry boat rides to and fro opposite sides of the island throughout our stay.
Us hiding inside from the strong wind |
Grona Land theme park. Look at the scary rides! |
I love the ferry boat rides as it gives us a beautiful view of Stockholm. We managed to stay outside for awhile before hiding indoors from the cold strong wind.
We purchased the Stockholm Pass which gives us entry to some of the attractions in Stockholm.
The Nordiska Museum was so huge that I thought it was a palace at first. The museum was very visual friendly as it shows the actual house / home, costumes, food, etc from different timeline of Sweden.
Main entrance |
Honestly, I got a bit bored after a while because it was too huge and I'm not a big fan of museums.
Check our the cannon balls that is lodged to the buildings is said to date back to Bloodbath in 1520.
Despite the rain, we still pose for photos! |
Public phone booth |
One of our meal, we went to an underground viking-inspired restaurant called Medeltidskrogen Sjatte Tunnan and serves food from the 1300's medieval times. At the end of meal, our bill comes with a knife!
Better pay or else....! |
When visiting a new country and its capital, we always visit their Royal Palace. A fond memory of this place also because the security guard was a lady, and actually smiled with us when we took pictures, unlike the usual solemn serious expression.
We walked around Gamla Stan, which is the old town of Stockholm.
We also hopped into Hallwylska Museet as it was along the way and the entrance fees was already included in our Stockholm Pass.
We also visited the viking ship museum - Vasa Museum. I guess all the Scandinavian countries have lots of expedition in the beginning thus all these beautiful ships were preserved.
This Vasa ship however, has a funny story (to me!). It actually sank on its maiden voyage in 1628, not too far from the pier. It stays on the sea bed for 333 years before it was salvaged.

Of course, we also visited the "new" town of Stockholm, which is now full of high rise modern buildings. We walked around and below are some random photos of my trip.
Book as a pillar in a cafe. I LOVE IT! |
Public toilet |
We had a funny experience with the public toilet because it was a self-cleaning toilet. And it has a time limit! With our many layers of clothing and small space in the toilet, we were so afraid the toilet door will open before we are done with our business. So the rest of us are all guarding outside to block the view IF it does open before the person inside was done. Haha!
Random art on building |
Love their buildings |
