Hong Kong Day 5

3 November 2010
Another leisure day in HK. We woke up late and had brunch instead. Mum (who went HK 2 weeks earlier with her friends) recommended a walking distance Tai Ping Koon Restaurant. She says it was delicious! So we decided to go ahead and give it a try.

We were one of the first customers.

We decided to order exactly like Mum's ordered since she says the two dishes was really yummy.

Tomato Soup

Swiss Chicken Wings & Swiss Beef Brisket in Flat Noodles

The food was okay only lo. Some of the chicken wings in Penang is even better than HK. We put in our mind to inform mum that her recommendation was bad!. We did when we came back, but she says it was really delicious! Maybe different chef?

In nice restaurants like this, they even give us lemons to clean our hands after washing. *pampered*

Lemon to wash our hands . Milk Tea & Coffee

After brunch, we walked to Park Lane Shopper's Boulevard located in Nathan Road.

And we continue to walked while shopped along Nathan Road (which is very very long). After a while, Peter decided to wait for us in the guest house instead. LOL
After completing Nathan Road, we walked in the little streets all along the area. We bought some top, belts, beauty product, and I bought the first perfume I ever own!!

50ml for HK$225

Mind you...HK is a low tax haven! Thus explains why there are so many perfumes and beauty shops all around HK! Yin says HK sells the cheapest SKII! WOW! It was about 3pm by the time we meet up again with Peter.

The day before, we happened to came into a "food HongKies cannot live without" website and one of them was a mango dessert from Hui Lau Shan. Since Hui Lau Shan can be found easily, of course we did not want to miss it!

This is the dessert, Mango Pudding in Mango Juice with Extra Mango!

Even the name itself makes me salivate. Dont you feel so?

Besides the Mango Mango Mango, we had Mango Combo too. Again, yummy! I really love desserts in HK!

Then we walked towards the Tsim Sha Tsui pier for our ferry ride to Hong Kong Island. Spotted a really beautiful building, the 1881 Heritage which features a shopping mall, a heritage hotel, and an exhibition hall. WOW! We didnt go inside though.

Spotted the infamous Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower right beside the pier too.

We then find our way to the counter to buy our ferry tickets. Spotted a cruise and went half-dreaming hoping that the ferry would be as nice and luxurious as this cruise!

Of course it wasnt! Haha It was just an ordinary ferry, something like those Penang-Mainland ferries.

view from ferry

It was a short ferry ride. Around 5 minutes later, we've reached Central Pier. It was already 4.40pm that time and we rushed ourselves to Connaught Road Central.

Peter wanted to meet Mr Cheah from Value Partners. After much rushing, we arrived at Value Partners @ Nexxus Building, but Mr Cheah had left the office. Can totally see Peter's disappointment at that time.

Then we walked back our way from Connaught Road Central to Yuen Kee Restaurant located near Lan Kwai Fong.

We heard many nice reviews that Yung Kee serves the best Siew Ngo Pei (Roast Goose). When looking at the menu, the first few pages lists down all the awards/recognition that Yung Kee had since its opening half a century ago! There must have been hundreds of awards/recognition there! o.O

Anyway, the price was a bomb! In the end we ordered just a plate of Roast Goose Rice.

before... and during meal (forgot to take picture before eating)

The portion of the Roast Goose Rice was slighty bigger the normal RM3 Chicken Rice served in Penang. But guess what's the number printed on the bill?

HK$93.50!! HK$93.50 for a plate of roast goose rice and some tea. =.=''

Being still hungry after Yung Kee, we went over to the opposite restaurant, Wong Chi Kei for another round of dinner! LOL

Congee a la Sampan & Shrimp Dumpling in Soup

We're finally satisfied with our dinner! Then we walked around Lan Kwai Fong. It was still rather early (7pm) so I think Lan Kwai Fong is still quiet and not packed yet. Plus neither of us is a fan of alcohol.

Just something funny though. In the TVB movies we watched, their bar/club seems to be bigger! All the bars that I saw in Lan Kwai Fong is really narrow and small with a small bar area. It looks like a quiet cafe to chill rather than a place to party hard! Haha

We left Lan Kwai Fong and headed to Mongkok! I think we prefer a place with desserts than a place with alcohol. LOL

We went hunting for Hong Lin Restaurant the moment we reached Mongkok. One of the website says they serve yummy Polo Pau (Pineapple Bun)! With HK map at all times, of course we managed to find Hong Lin. Hehe

Bought a Polo Pau to try. Couldnt resist from buying the egg-tart. Too tempting!

The top layer of the Polo Pau is delicious! The bun itself is just normal as there's no fillings inside the Polo Pau. It would've tasted so much better with butter in the bun! Egg-tart was nice! So far all the egg-tarts I ate in HK is always nice!

Spotted a long queue at this stall and couldnt resist to buy some Curry Fishballs again! Haha
That's why we love Mongkok more than Lan Kwai Fong. There's food everywhere!! =D

We walked pass Temple Street too. The whole area is very commercialised to tourist already.
Anyway I spotted this. Can you guess what is it?

It's a bird?
It's a chicken?
NO! IT'S AN UNDERWEAR!
Hahahaha who would wear that I wonder?

We then walked towards Soy Street for the much anticipated food of the trip... (Smelly Tofu)!
It's like a MUST TRY when you visit HK right?

KarenC actually helped me to search the internet on where I can find Smelly Tofu in HK! Thanks Karen! muaks

Stinky Tofu is a form of fermented tofu that has a strong odor.

You know when they say you can smell Smelly Tofu from the end of the street? Well, we did not!
We actually doubted if it's the real Smelly Tofu even when we were right in front of the shop, staring at them. It wasnt smelly at all!

We bought 1 to share as the 3 of us are not fans of even normal tofu.

And as expected, we didnt like it. But not because it was smelly, but because it is a tofu!

Yin mentioned that the Smelly Tofu that she smelled in Shanghai was waaaaaaaay smellier, like longkang smell. Hmm....Maybe this version of smelly tofu is tourist friendly? I'm disappointed that it's not smelly! LOL

After the Smelly Tofu experience, we walked around Central for a while... and then headed back to Tsim Sha Tsui for a long Day 6 ahead!
